This is my very first newsletter - so hello and welcome!
For those of you who have listened to my podcast or been a guest on The Change Alchemist, you know one of the questions I ask my guests is about their superpower.
I am always struck with amazement that each one of the 30+ guests I’ve interviewed so far has had a unique superpower, but what’s even more surprising is that it’s also one I would never have guessed.
Superpowers have been across the spectrum - pattern recognition, not belonging, learning, coming up with metaphors, storytelling, positivity, enthusiasm, consistency, the list goes on and on…. And sometimes, I scratch my head and wonder why they listed it as a superpower. And then the reason dawns on me like a sunrise in Hawaii!
Don't underestimate her ability to talk, it's her superpower. - Carrie Vaughn
I like to think my superpower is learning and my kryptonite is lack of focus. What’s yours?
In a 2007 speech at USC law school, Munger says:
I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up, and boy, does that help, particularly when you have a long run ahead of you. … So if civilization can progress only with an advanced method of invention, you can progress only when you learn the method of learning. Nothing has served me better in my long life than continuous learning. I went through life constantly practicing (because if you don’t practice it, you lose it) the multidisciplinary approach and I can’t tell you what that’s done for me. It’s made life more fun, it’s made me more constructive, it’s made me more helpful to others, and it’s made me enormously rich. You name it, that attitude really helps.
And 3 Other Things Worth Your Time
I just traveled to Austin this past week. After a year-long hiatus. I was so excited to be drinking Seltzer water and eating the free snacks on my Alaska Airlines flight! If you are wondering if you should be making travel plans, check out this New York Times article on using technology to prepare for a vacation. With coronavirus vaccines now readily available, you might have ambitions to venture far from home. Government officials, after all, say traveling is a low-risk activity for the inoculated. Airlines, hotels and cruise lines are considering the use of so-called vaccine passports, which are essentially digital bar codes proving that you have been vaccinated against Covid-19, before allowing you to patronize their businesses.
I’ve been thinking a lot about employee experience and how it ties into customer experience. Amazon.com Inc. founder and Chief Executive Jeff Bezos recently sent a letter to shareholders. Mr. Bezos is set to step down as CEO in the third quarter and will remain chairman. Here is a copy of the letter. Check out Jeff Bezos letter here. And the commentary from The Verge here
I recently spoke to Khe Hy( Wall St Guru and Oprah for Millennials) on the Change Alchemist podcast on his career journey, productivity and non-linear careers. You can listen to the podcast episode here!
